How It Works

Going Once runs timed online estate auctions. This page covers each step, from first bid to local pickup.

Step 1
Register to bid
Create a free account and add a card. Going Once checks the card with a $1 hold that is released right away, and bidding opens as soon as the hold clears, so every bid on the platform is backed by a working card.
Step 2
Bid your maximum
Enter the most you are willing to pay. Proxy bidding then bids the minimum needed to keep you in front, up to your maximum. Going Once will email you if you are outbid.
Step 3
Lots close one by one
On closing night, lots end in order a few at a time, not all at once. A bid in the final minutes extends that lot's clock, so a last-second bid does not win on timing alone; the best offer does.
Step 4
Pay your winning bid plus the buyer's premium
Win a lot and you pay your winning bid plus the auction's buyer's premium. After the close, your saved card is charged securely through Stripe, and Purchases lists every invoice.
Step 5
Pick up locally
Pick up your lots at the time shown on the auction page. The full address is on your invoice, so bring it with you.
